Rapper and actor LL Cool J and his wife, Simone Smith, are marriage veterans, and this week they’re celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary.
On Instagram, Smith, a jewelry designer, dedicated a sweet message to her husband with a caption that’s so sweet and fitting that you’ll want to grab a tissue.
“Happy 23 Baby!!! I’ll be your Candy Girl Forever,” she wrote.
In 1998, the rapper dedicated the song “Candy” from his studio album, Phenomenon,to his loving wife, and it’s still her jam. The hashtags said it all: “#Myfavoritesong #blacklove #loveis #godisgreat #1987”
LL, born James Todd Smith, and Simone met in the early 80s. They were teenagers who were set up by a friend. The couple married in 1995 and have four children together and are proud grandparents to a grandson, King-James.
Over the years, The Smiths have been through their share of ups and downs.
In 2004, Simone found a lump on her leg and was diagnosed with bone cancer. During her battle, LL was her biggest supporter and the experience, Simone said, definitely brought them closer.
“You don’t abandon someone in that foxhole, you know,” the actor and rapper revealed during a sit-down with Oprah. “You got to be there in that foxhole with them. So I made some decisions professionally and decided to be by Simone’s side during that period.”
In honor of their anniversary, the happy couple received many wishes of love from their daughters, Italia, Samaria, and Nina as well as good friend, Niecy Nash.
