We’re now getting more information about why Tisha Campbell-Martin and Duane Martin’s marriage came to an end.
According to TMZ, the former My Wife and Kids star obtained a restraining order against her ex-husband after alleging years of physical and emotional abuse.
In court documents, Campbell-Martin said her ex-husband of more than two-decades recently punched her in the chest. She also claimed Duane “grabbed me by my arm to try to get me in the bedroom” back in December.
While Campbell-Martin filed for divorce back in February 2018, in recent court filings she said the alleged abuse stretched back to the beginning of their marriage in 1996. However, the actor said she is speaking up about this part of their relationship because she “can no longer live in fear of retaliation.
“The need [to] press criminal charges for his acts overshadows the embarrassment of making his crimes against me public through this report,” Campbell-Martin said in court documents.
Last November, Campbell-Martin told ESSENCE’s Yes, Girl! podcast how she was adjusting to her new relationship status.
“I have amazing people around me,” the actor explained last year. “This is the happiest [she’s] been in a long time.”
