When it comes to relationships, sometimes timing is everything. Such is the case with rapper Common and political pundit Angela Rye. Reportedly, the two have bounced back from their breakup and are now giving their relationship another try.
Common recently stopped by The Angie Martinez Show to promote his new album Let Love, which drops tomorrow (Aug. 30), and his memoir Let Love Have the Last Word. In addition to talking music, the rapper and actor revealed some of the real-life inspiration behind his new project – namely his rekindled romance with Rye. The
“We dated. You know, I had to get myself together,” Common said of their makeup.
Martinez applauds him, saying, “She’s a smart cookie.” Common replies by adding, “she’s a strong cookie.”
He continues: “But she’s good people. Really a good balance, and fun too. I need a partner who is fun, because we go out there and do the work. I’m living out the things I’m passionate about. But so many times, I’m talking about things that are going on in the world, the serious things in life. So I just need somebody [where] we can just talk and have fun.”
Of course, Common also addressed the performance of himself with ex-girlfriend Erykah Badu. The Chicago rapper has gone on record about how deeply in love he was with her and how their breakup took a toll on him. However, he insists they’ve both moved on. “You got people in your life that you’ve always connected to,” he says. “It may not be romantically, but you still got that connection. Erykah’s like family to me at this point. She does have that thing [laughs] but I’m happy in a relationship. You gotta be able to balance things and know ‘I love this person, but this ain’t the person for my relationship life.'”
Common and Rye began dating in the summer of 2017, and Rye confirmed that the two had broken up back in March 2018 after many noticed they had stopped appearing on red carpets together. “We have and will always be friends,” Rye told Page Six TV at the time. “He is an amazing human being, and I’m a much better person because he’s a part of my life. May we all keep loving and living.”
We wish this happy and woke couple the best!
