In June, Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta celebrated 35 years of marriage and they have put in the work to make their union a happy and successful one.
Recently, the veteran actor opened up about the secret to making things work at home and we hope all the fellas are taking notes.
“I do what I’m told. I keep my mouth shut,” the 63-year-old Academy Award winner jokingly told PEOPLE.
The couple wed in 1983 after meeting on the set of the television film, Wilma. The pair has four children including BlacKkKlansman star, John David Washington, daughter Katia and twins Olivia and Malcolm.
As for what he appreciates most about their relationship, the New Yorker said it’s having Pauletta by his side through the good and bad.
“What pops into my head: security, food, a beautiful home,” he said. “The difference between a house and a home, it’s a big difference. You can buy a house, but that doesn’t make it a home – and not to say a man can’t make a home a home, but my wife has made our house a home, and raised these beautiful kids [John David,33, Katia, 30, twins Olivia and Malcolm, 27] and protected them and sacrificed for them, she did the heavy lifting.”
Plus his Mrs. isn’t too bad in the kitchen either.
“She has a few [specialties]. I’ve been eating her curry chicken since I’ve known her,” he shared with the magazine. “I used to make it too, but not as good as hers.”
