It’s been one year since the unexpected death of model and entrepreneur, Kim Porter. Diddy (aka Sean Combs), her former partner and father of three of her children, has never been shy about how her tragic loss has affected him and their family. Today, he remembers the woman he once called his soulmate.
Today, the mogul honored Kim on Instagram with a photo of a broken heart emoji. The caption simply reads Porter’s initials, “KP.”
Diddy also shared one of his favorite memories of Porter, where she sits at the piano and plays the family a tune. “Every time I get sad I look at this video and it brings a smile to my face,” Diddy revealed.
In his May 2019 cover story for ESSENCE, Combs told friend and journalist Dream Hampton what it was like to get the call. He says the passing of Porter was “a total shock” and “most traumatic thing I’ve ever been through.”
“She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick,” he said of the days before Porter’s death. “One night I was checking on her, and she was like, ‘Puffy, take care of my babies.’ She actually said that to me before she died.”
To keep their kids protected, he says he immediately “jumped into mommy mode” to make sure they didn’t find out about their mother’s death through social media. He even had their son Christian’s phone disconnected so he wouldn’t read the news while traveling.
Kim Porter passed away from lobar pneumonia on November 15, 2018. She was laid to rest Saturday, November 24, 2018 in her hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Dozens of celebrities flew in to say their goodbyes, including Usher, Lil’ Kim, Mary J. Blige, Yolanda Adams, Faith Evans, and Porter’s longtime friend Kimora Lee Simmons.
Rest in peace, Kim Porter! We’re sending love and light to the Combs family on this day.
