It’s been four years since rapper Eve and her husband, Gumball 3000 founder Maximillion Cooper said “I do” and the couple’ s bond appears stronger than ever. But how much do you really know about their love story? Here are five things you may not know about this love connection.
Eve and Max met at a Gumball 300 rally in 2010 and the Philadelphia born rapper would be the first to admit that their relationship has changed her for the better.
“Being married has changed me in a lot of different ways. It’s funny because I’m a really fiercely independent person and I always have been. Being married, you have to relinquish some of that,” she once told Cocoa Fab. “Not in a bad way but in the way that you need to sit back and trust your partner to be able [to] help you with things. Sometimes my husband has to say to me, ‘Chill. You’re my wife now. I can take the ball from here. Don’t even stress.’”
When the two tied the knot in 2014, Max was over the moon about his new Mrs. He gushed to E! News about tying the knot to why they decided to swap vows in Ibiza.
“I’m so happy to make Eve my wife,” he said. “The whole experience has been amazing and we are both so happy to have tied the knot. We met on the 2010 Gumball 3000 rally so it only seemed right to have the wedding at the finish of this years rally in Ibiza, which was the final stop on this years event,” he said. “We couldn’t be happier to celebrate such a special day with all our family and friends.”
Eve will be the first to admit that her hubby is a little challenged in the rhythm department. She admitted to Meredith Viera that Max tries his best on the dance floor but ultimately fails.
“My poor baby. I don’t let him dance. It’s really bad, she told Meredith Vieira in 2015. “It’s honestly so bad that I thought he was joking. I was like, ‘Oh that’s cute! You’re like dancing…you know.’ And then he did it again and did it again, I was like, ‘You know what? You shouldn’t dance.’ He’s cute so it really messes his whole thing up. So I’m like, you know what? You stand still and I’ll dance around you.’”
When Max and Eve said “I do,” she became stepmom to his four children. While the relationship was a rocky one in the beginning, she said she loves nothing more than being in their lives and she can’t wait to give them siblings one day.
“We can’t wait to have kids of our own,” she told PEOPLE in 2016. “Whoever is in charge, make it happen. I can’t wait.” The star told Sister 2 Sister that while she and the Mr. Gumball 3000 founder were dating, the transition to having children in her life was definitely a new experience.
“I love it now. It took a minute. I was like, ‘I’m not sure this is what I want to be my life.’ You know? But honestly, it’s been three years now and we’ve gone on vacations together, and they’re the sweetest kids. We talk about having kids. We talk about marriage. The kids are excited. They want a brown baby sister.”
While appearing on The Real, the star told a candid story about the moment she knew he was the one and well…we’ve all been there!
“I wouldn’t let a guy see me in my braids and in that moment,” she told the co-hosts. “But now I’m like, ‘Yeah, I don’t care.’ That’s when I knew! ‘I guess we’re staying together.’”
She continued, “I was actually getting my hair done. I was at a salon actually, in a little suite. He walked in and I was like, what am I gonna do? Run? He was just like, ‘Okay.’ I’m his first Black girl anyway. He has gone through Weave 101 with me. He knows now that if I say, ‘Babe I’m getting my hair done,’ he’s like, ‘Well, how long?’”
