What fans seem to love most about Eve, aside from her talent, is her fearlessness in sharing the highs and lows in her life as a testimony for others. During a recent episode of The Talk, Eve opened up about her struggles to conceive with her husband Max Cooper and the emotional toll its taken.
“Obviously, I’ve talked about my struggle with getting pregnant and I didn’t talk about it for a long time because I felt shameful,” Eve reveals to her co-hosts. “As a woman, you just think things happen naturally and I felt like I was damaged. I felt like I was broken. I felt like, oh maybe I wasn’t good enough… it’s a very sad hurtful thing, but the more I held onto it the worse I actually felt about it about myself.”
She says the silver lining in all this was the tribe of women that surrounded her with love and solidarity. “Since I’ve shared, people have been so sweet to me,” she continued. “Even in the audience, people have come to me and hugged me and said ‘you deserve it.'”
This isn’t the first time Eve has won our hearts with her refreshing honesty. In a conversation with ESSENCE’s Yes, Girl podcast, she revealed that she met her husband during a time of rediscovery. “I just took a step back,” she told hosts Charli Penn and Cori Murray. “When I made the decision to kind of discover myself and figure out who I want to be as a woman, I met my husband.”
Prior to meeting Max, Eve revealed that she was in a toxic relationship that almost pushed her into a dark state of depression. “I was engaged to someone else who I forgot to ask for the core things,” she admits. “We had a dope life, but he was a terrible person. He was really poisonous to me as a person, but I didn’t ask for the love and respect. I think it’s all about being internal too. Just do the work on yourself, and everything else. ”
