At only 9 months old, Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s daughter Kaavia James already has quite the personality. In fact, she’s been given the nickname “shady baby” because of her famous side-eye, which her mom attributes to Kaavia being a classic Scorpio. Because of this, it’s no surprise what Kaavia’s first phrase turned out to be.
This week, Union shared a video of little miss Kaavia reciting her first words – “bye bye.” This perfectly captures Kaavia’s vibes, according to mom. “I thought saying ‘Mom’ or ‘Dad’ first was sort of natural, but then she started saying ‘Bye,’ which says it all,” Union told People. “We say ‘Hi’ and ‘Hey’ so she kinda gets that, she says that pretty okay. But when we leave her, we say ‘Bye-bye,’ and that’s what stuck. And that’s what is super clear. She’s very articulate with the ‘Bye-bye.’ “
During an exclusive interview with ESSENCE, Wade and Union said their daughter is very passionate, even as an infant. “She’s very specific,” Union told. “She likes what she likes, and she doesn’t [like] what she doesn’t.”
If you’re lucky enough to be in her presence, you can go ahead and skip the goo-goo ga-gas. Little mama isn’t your average baby. “She does not do baby talk,” Union added about her bundle of joy. “She’d prefer to listen to CNN over baby talk any day. She’s not with that. You can have a normal conversation with her and she’ll react.”
Speaking isn’t the only milestone baby Kaavia has hit recently. She can also can hold her breath underwater, blow bubbles and judge your outfit choices.
