Just a few months after announcing his battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has successfully concluded his first surgery. While neither Nene or Gregg have officially announced what type of cancer he is fighting The Real Housewives of Atlanta cameras are continuing to document every step of their difficult journey together.
Moments after Greg’s diagnosis he wasn’t sure if he would make it out alive, and was prepared for the worst even before beginning his procedure.
In the season 11 premiere of the show, which airs on Sunday, Gregg recounts the exact emotions he felt once doctors confirmed his worst fears. He recalls how scary it was hearing the diagnosis, but being prepared for whatever God had in store.
“I guess the scariest part about all of this is when we got to the hospital and the doctor saying that we need to do surgery on you tonight or you ain’t going to make it. And so I went over and prayed to God and I told Him, ‘If it’s time, let’s go. I don’t fear death, I don’t want to go. If my work here is finished here, take care of them, let’s go,” Gregg expressed.
In full preparation mode, moments after that prayer, Gregg decided to write a heartfelt letter to his wife Nene in case he didn’t make it out.
“I wrote a note to my doctor and I told him to give it to you if I didn’t come out…Writing that note was the hardest thing I ever did in my life.” Gregg expressed to his wife.
Thankfully that letter never had to be delivered, because Gregg’s surgery was a success; which also gave him a newfound desire to keep fighting.
“I never thought I had it in me to fight cancer. Now, I want to beat cancer’s ass.” Gregg stated.
With his wife and loved ones right by his side, Gregg appears to be determined to beat this illness and continue his life as an incredible father and husband. Fans will follow his journey on the new season of the show.
