The ladies of Red Table Talk are getting together for perhaps one of the most taboo subjects of all. Jada Pinkett-Smith, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris and daughter Willow Smith get very real and honest about pornography and its effect on relationships.
Pinkett-Smith begins the segment by admitting that she used to rely on porn far too often. “”This is an interesting one, and I actually feel like I was using ‘addiction’ a little lightly. I would say that I had an unhealthy relationship to porn at one point in my life where I was trying to practice abstinence,” she says. “I can see how [porn] can create an unrealistic expectation.”
Banfield-Norris admitted that to her, there is something about porn that feels “unnatural,” but that engaging with it has been beneficial. “I grew up in a household that created a lot of shame, which is so interesting because it wasn’t like that for [Jada] but it was like that for me,” she says. “There was something about it that was freeing, but there’s also [the part] where you need to have really good girlfriends.”
At some point, Banfield-Norri is taken aback by the fact that she’s having this conversation. ‘You keep saying exactly,’ Adrienne says to Willow. ‘And I’m like, “I cannot believe that I’m having this conversation with my daughter and granddaughter!”‘
The hosts then welcomed a husband and wife, who speak candidly about how his lifelong addiction to porn almost destroyed their relationship. Take a look at this must-see Red Table Talk episode in the video below.
