How’d you meet your man?
Jarron and I met at the Juke House, a jazz bar in the historic 18th and Vine District. All it took was a trip to the powder room and I met the man of my dreams. I was walking into the restroom and he was coming out of the mensroom. We locked eyes, and in my normal peppy, cheerleader voice, I said, “Hi!” He replied “Hello, how are you?” He tried to initiate a conversation, but I shut it down almost immediately. My intentions weren’t to be rude, but nature was calling!
What made you fall in love with her?
I fell in love with Brandy because of the great woman she is. Despite her busy schedule she manages her time well between me, her friends and our families.. and she’s also a great cook!
Brandy, were you looking for love at the time?
Where’s Destiny’s Child when you need ’em? “No, no, no, no, no!” I was not looking for love when I met Jarron. I was over dating and wanted to enjoy being single for the first time in my adult life.
Describe your most romantic date ever?
Our most romantic date ever was at a restaurant called Skies. It sat atop the Hyatt Regency Hotel and was the city’s only revolving restaurant. It had the best view of the city. It was a super romantic evening of dinner and drinks, followed by music at a nearby lounge. We even ended the night with a fun photo shoot. It was one of several memorable nights for us.
What’s the sweetest thing he has ever done for you?
Our first Valentine’s Day together, he surprised me and hid my gifts throughout my loft. He basically redecorated my bedroom. I was initially upset with him for the gifts because we agreed to buy gifts under $50, but he was so adamant about contributing and helping me decorate and furnish the loft I’d just moved into. I was smitten.
How did he pop the question?
To celebrate his 26th birthday, I made dinner reservations at a seafood restaurant called Gaslight Grill. To my surprise, his invite list grew way beyond my expectations. It even included my two best friends and my parents who all traveled three and a half hours to be there. After dinner, Jarron began to express his thanks for everyone’s attendance and he asked me to stand up with him. I initially refused, but then finally I obliged. After I expressed my gratitude, he began to tell me how the dinner was not only a celebration for him, but that it was for me too. I was puzzled, but before I could reply, he was down on bended knee asking me to marry him. I couldn’t believe all of our guests knew about the proposal. Even the restaurant staff that I’d been working with for his “birthday dinner” were in the loop. I planned my own engagement party. It was the absolute best proposal ever.
Were you nervous about proposing, Jarron?
Honestly, I can’t say that I was nervous. I was more excited than anything because I already knew she would say yes. I just couldn’t wait to see her smile and be completely blown away by the actual proposal.
Who would you cast to play your future hubby in a movie?
I would cast Idris Elba. They both have low-key personalities, and are shy but make their presence known.
What are you most looking forward to about marrying Brandy?
I’m looking most forward to spending the rest of my life with a smart, beautiful woman that I can continue to grow from and with. She has been the greatest gift from God to me and I am forever grateful. I’m also looking forward to starting our family.
