How did you meet your man?
Through a mutual friend in Newport, Rhode Island.
What was his first impression of you?
Randy says from the moment he met me all he could think about was my smile and that he just had to get to know me.
Describe your most romantic date. (Ever!)
Once I gave up the fight, everything Randy did turned out to be romantic. I think it was our first date. He drove me to a restaurant overlooking the ocean from a cliff, it was all ours and dinner was served next to a fireplace.
Weirdest date you’ve ever been on?
One night we fell asleep on a beach in Daytona. Randy woke me up by yelling at a strange man who was standing over us.
What’s your idea of a good time?
We love to travel and experience life. We’ll pick a place on a map and just go.
At what moment did you know he was “The One” for you?
The day I left Rhode Island, I woke up to a beautiful card from Randy. He had neatly packed my suitcases while I slept. I started to cry, and he laid down next me, held me and started to cry too.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
I had surgery on my arm and Randy came over to help me recover. I woke up in the morning to the sounds of pots and pans. It was Randy cooking me breakfast!
How did he pop the question?
While we were driving back from visiting his family in Mississippi for Thanksgiving, we stopped at a hotel in Atlanta. I told him I would really like to take him on a tour of my alma mater, Spelman College, the next day, but that I would have to tell the security guard at the gate that he was my husband. He said, “Oh, I have to be your husband to get onto Spelman’s campus?” I told him yes because we were too old to be students and random men are not allowed on campus. Then, he asked if I was ready to be his wife. I told him yes, and then casually asked if he had the ring in his pocket or something. To my surprise, he did! He pulled it out right there and put it on my finger.
What was really going through your mind as he proposed?
OMG, is this really happening? Can I change my Facebook status right now?
Were you nervous about proposing, Randy?
No. I just wanted to execute my own plan. It didn’t happen according to my plan though.
Fill in the blank: If you’re spying on us on a Friday night, you’ll probably catch us ________
….sleeping on the couch with the TV watching us.
What are you most looking forward to about marriage?
Being a good wife to my husband and taking care of our family.
