“Every memory we created together, every inside joke, every hug and every kiss just added up and every day I realized more and more how much I loved him and wanted to be with him,” bride-to-be Bukky tells us.
“He knows me better than I know myself,” says Bukky. “There are times where I won’t say anything to him but he knows exactly how I feel.”
“He knows my flaws and chooses to love me anyway,” Bukky tells us. “He doesn’t judge my weird movie tastes or my insecurities. Other than God, no one knows me as deeply or intimately as he does.”
“My mommy loves him,” boasts Bukky. “She truly considers him her son. One year my siblings and I bought her a bracelet with all of our birthstones in it and she made us take it back and add his birthstone before she would accept it. My daddy loved him as well. I only wish they could have spent more time together before my daddy passed.”
Bukky and Afolabi dated for nine years before they got engaged. “Because we met so young we wanted to finish school before we made the leap of marriage,” shares the bride.
“The sweetest thing he’s ever done for me was make me a love CD mixtape,” Bukky shares. “This was back before iTunes and other music downloads became popular. There were 12 songs on it and I listened to it every day until it became scratched. The first song on the CD actually became our song.”
“I think he said ‘I love you’ first,” says Bukky. “He says I did but I don’t remember.”
“If its football season, then its all about football,” Bukky tell us. “The thing I love about our relationship is that we can be doing absolutely nothing together and still be content. Being with each together is all we need sometimes.”
“Because his brother and my sister were friends first I had already met some of his family before I met him,” says Bukyky. “I was really nervous about meeting his dad though. But he turned out to be one of the kindest and funniest people I know. I can’t imagine my life without his dad.”
“I don’t really know how to describe my ring,” say Bukyky. “It’s just perfect. It’s like a princess quad with little diamonds around the center and three layers on the side. We shopped around together and I remember loving the ring but being the frugal (he calls me cheap) person that I am, I felt that it cost too much. I guess I was wrong. (Laughs.)”
“When we’re (finally!) husband and wife, I can’t wait to wake up next to him every morning,” Bukky shares.
“The one thing I love the most is her genuine loving and caring character,” says Afolabi.
“Everything about her had me falling in love — her personality, her beauty, her intelligence, her drive,” the groom-to-be shares. “As she continued to evolve I found myself loving her even more.”
“Just having her around me is something I truly love,” Afolabi admits.
How nervous was Afolabi when it came time to pop the question to Bukky? “Very!” he tells us. “If you’re not nervous as a man about propose then there’s something wrong.”
When they’re husband and wife, Afolabi tells us he most looks forward to achieving their goals together.
“I thought I would be a bridezilla because I can be strong willed at times,” says Bukky. “But it is a little intimidating planning a wedding because you want your friends and family to have a great time. That’s why I am very grateful for my wedding planner Mideevents.”
“I want to be a fun bride,” says Bukky. “I am naturally goofy so I want my bridal party and guests to just have fun!”
