How did you meet your man?
Ian went to college with two of my best friends from high school. I met him a few times at get-togethers when they would come back to the city on break from school.
At what moment did you know he was “The One” for you?
When I was able to be completely transparent and vulnerable. I was safe to reveal all my imperfections and he wasn’t scared or ready to leave. He loves everything about me and he tells me every day. He is patient and so supportive. He truly loves me for who I am.
Describe your most romantic date ever.
One unexpected Sunday after church, he surprised me with a romantic afternoon visit to the Central Park Boathouse. I had never been there and I always wanted to go. We went rowing in Central Park, complete with a gourmet lunch picnic, which he prepared, and my favorite jazz artists to serenade us for the afternoon.
Best gift he ever gave you?
Ian is very thoughtful and intentional. He truly cherishes me, so to pick just one thing would be an injustice to the overflowing love I feel almost every day. I get flowers just because it’s Tuesday, cards that are meaningful and thoughtful, daily affirmations of my beauty, worth and talent, and very recently he made me a book “52 things I love about you: a small version of a much bigger list.” The lists goes on. I think the best gift I’ve ever gotten is him.
Are your parents all in too?
Their prayers have been answered. My parents are so happy for us. They truly love Ian; he is the son they always wanted.
How did he pop the question?
He popped the question at 12:30 a.m. on January 1, 2014. It was thirty minutes after bringing in the New Year and my 30th birthday in Paris. We walked to the square in front of the Louvre, reminisced on being in Paris once before and we even danced to some love songs as if we were the only two people in the world. After reading a poem by the adored Bob Marley on knowing when you’ve found the right person, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. (Swoon!)
