Kandi Burruss has never been shy about her sexuality and encouraging men and women to talk openly about sex, pleasure and exploring new things between the sheets.
In 2009, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star brought her tell-it-like-it-is style online with her hit late-night web show, Kandi Koated Nights, and instantly got people talking. Through celebrity and expert interviews and no-holds-barred conversations with special guests, Burruss and friends went there and helped fans keep it hot. Now, nine years later, her popular, sexy series is finally getting it’s prime time television debut on Bravo, which Burruss says couldn’t be more on time.
“Every year, or every other year, I tried to make it a little bigger and a little bigger, then finally I just got to the point where I was like, ‘I don’t want to do it anymore unless I could see it on TV,’ Burruss told ESSENCE. “So that was my mission and we finally pulled it off!”
The series, which will be a half-hour talk show hosted by Burruss, premieres on Bravo tonight and promises to continue to “go there” on all topics related to love, sex, and relationships.
Burruss has never steered clear of seemingly “taboo topics” and now that they’re on TV, that won’t change because Burruss’ intention has always been to make a show that helps women to evolve sexually. “There are so many women out here that don’t know how to be pleased,” said Burruss. “There’s so many women who are depriving themselves from a good orgasm because they don’t really know, you know, what to do or how to tell their partners how to please them. You’ve got all these women around here that’s not really satisfied. They’ve got to fix that.”
The knowledge comes from these filter-free conversations, Burruss insists.
“You need to know your body. You need to know your own body and then, sometimes, it’s good to be able to talk to your homegirls, and maybe she can tell you some things that you didn’t know,” said Burruss. “Let me be that homegirl, please. That’s what Kandi Koated Nights is about. I have so many people that will say that they watch the show because we talk about things that they’ve always wanted to know but they never really could say to anybody else.”
From masturbation to female orgasms to sex toys, expect to get all of the sexy tea from Burruss and crews. For the adaption, Burruss will be joined by comedian Yamaneika Saunders, Nikki Nicole, The DJ AOne, and a host of experts on every subject.
Kandi Koated Nights premieres Sunday, July 1 at 9pm in Bravo.
