Kehlani is officially a mom!
The singer announced the arrival of her daughter, Adeya, who was born over the weekend. While the new mom is are not yet ready to show her daughter’s face, Kehlani did open up about going through the delivery process without using any drugs during her labor process.
“This weekend our angel arrived healthy & perfect in every way in our bathroom at home,” she revealed in an Instagram post. “Unmedicated home birth was the absolute hardest yet most powerful thing i’ve ever done. Thankful beyond words. in love beyond comparison. refraining from posting to be family and rest, we just wanted to say thank you to everyone who sent well wishes, love, and support in all forms while waiting & working to bring Adeya earthside.”
Adeya’s dad (and Kehlani’s guitarist) Javaughn Young-White expressed his joy in being a father and helping with the delivery process. “Kehlani birthed her, standing up, right into my arms,” he wrote. “In that moment, all the indisputable pulls of intuition, random bellows of clarity, & ear-splitting life lessons I’ve received in recent years made more sense than i’ve ever needed. We came face to face with beauty. arm in arm with God. I realized I was never alone in those moments, Adeya was simply aligning things for herself haha. She doesn’t take hesitation for an answer.”
Kehlani first announced her pregnancy back in October 2018. In a since-deleted Instagram post, the “Distraction” singer debuted her growing baby bump with the news that she was four-months pregnant with a baby girl. “If you know me, you know I’ve dreamt about motherhood since i was very young. when asked what my goals are, it’s always the idea of a big healthy happy family & whatever comes along is a plus,” she wrote. “I knew sharing something so personal and precious could bring stress into my world but there isn’t a word anyone would say my way that could take away from this. Dearest little girl, I am so proud to be your mommy,” she wrote. “I cannot wait to meet you, i know you will be 50,000 times more special than I can even imagine at this moment.”
Although she was initially hesitant about sharing her pregnancy journey on social media, Kehlani has been an open book while preparing for the birth of her first child. Adamant about having a natural birth, she recruited a doula and a team of midwives to help her prepare for labor through a holistic approach.
Posting a photo from her blessing ceremony, Kehlani shared, “I felt so cared for, heard, seen, and safe. received so many forms of blessings, so many forms of prayer, so many forms of love. I love this love. thank you Sumi & Andrea my beautiful, ever knowing, magical midwives. my 8 year old doula Amada, my taurean princess. & fefy, always providing the sunshine with every smile.”
Kehlani and Jay also had a traditional baby shower, with guests like SZA and Syd from The Internet in attendance.
