Kevin Hart has done a whole lot of growing up over the years. The Philadelphia native — who’s small in size but huge in talent and heart — has become a powerhouse in the comedy space, bringing in millions of dollars from film and television projects.
But along the way, he and ex-wife Torrei Hart broke up, making for media headlines and tension between the two.
Six years after they officially divorced — and with the co-parenting and mutual respect mastered — the father of two (with one on the way) has some clarity on the marriage that went south.
“The greatest lesson I learned is that you can be too young to understand,” he said in the ESSENCE June issue. “I think the lack of experience, knowledge and respect I had in the first marriage were the reasons for the downfall. Not really understanding the definition of marriage, not really taking it seriously. I was 22 when we got married, and it’s a big thing.”
Newly married and expecting his third child with wife Eniko Parrish, the 37-year-old is more cognizant on how he treats the people in his life.
“Yes, your homes may get bigger; you may get some new toys. But I focus on keeping a clear head, understanding that nothing is guaranteed, that stuff can change in the blink of an eye.”
