Many might wonder why actor and model Kofi Siriboe, who stole our hearts with roles in Queen Sugar and Girls Trip, is single. He’s got an amazing career, is wise beyond his years, and is easy on the eyes. Still, he’s taking his time to find love, and for good reason.
Siriboe stopped by the live Essence Festival taping of our Yes Girl podcast on Friday, and opened up about what his past relationships have taught him.
“I just realized that I still had voids that I was trying to fill and I still have self-love work to do,” he explained to hosts Charli Penn and Cori Murray. “Once I realized it, I started seeing it everywhere. We expect so much from each other. It’s a cultural thing; this idea that your happiness depends on a person.”
Siriboe, who previously dated model Duckie Thot, said he takes relationships seriously, which is why the 25-year-old isn’t willing to just call anybody his girlfriend.
“I’m not going to be in a relationship unless I’m really able to commit. Before I’m able to commit, I have to show myself that I can commit to myself and become the man I want to be,” he said. “I say that on a mental level, a discipline level, a spiritual level, and a resource level. If I have a kid and a woman, I want to be able to take care of them. I want to give them the space to develop and unfold the way God intended.”
Siriboe isn’t pushing away the possibility of finding “the one,” though, but timing is everything.
“I’m doing me right now,” he concludes. “I know I want kids. I know I want a woman. I want property, but there are things I need to do first.”
Though Kofi is enjoying the single life, that doesn’t mean there aren’t many, many offers on the table. A swarm of ladies came to the edge of the stage Friday as he greeted fans with handshakes and a closer glimpse at his perfectly sculpted face. A girl can dream!
