Losing rapper Nipsey Hussle is a loss the hip hop community is still healing from. But for his family, including his longtime girlfriend Lauren London, Nipsey’s loss is unfathomable.
GQ Magazine recently interviewed several members of Nipsey’s family and inner circle including London, his father Dawit Asghedom and brother/business partner Samiel Asghedom. Through a series of quotes, those who knew him best recount the life and legacy of the tragically gunned-down rapper and activist.
London says she and Nipsey were introduced through a mutual friend. After purchasing some copies of his limited edition Crenshaw mixtape, Nipsey offered London some merchandise from his Marathon Clothing store. “I pulled up to his shop on Crenshaw and Slauson, and he was like, ‘You want to hang out?’” London recalls. Since their first date, the actress says their chemistry blossomed in what she describes as the most “natural” way.
The actress declined to speak on the last day she spent with Nipsey, but did reveal what life has been like since losing her soulmate unexpectedly. “I still have to be strong for my children,” she says. “I have a three-year-old that’s still asking, ‘Where is Daddy?’ He doesn’t understand the concept of death.”
She continued: “I haven’t gotten to digest the fullness of it, because it’s overwhelming and I’m in the process of healing myself and my family. But I absolutely feel the love of the city.”
On March 31, 2019, Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in front of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. He leaves behind two children: a three-year-old son named Kross and a 10-year-old daughter named Emani. Hussle was also a proud stepfather to London’s eldest son Kameron, whom she shares with rapper Lil Wayne.
