Lena Waithe made history at the 2017 Emmys when she became the first Black woman to secure a win for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
After winning big for penning the “Thanksgiving” episode of the hit Netflix series Master of None, the Chicago native has continued to show and prove why the blessings from Hollywood just keep raining down on her career.
Despite all of her success, the 34-year-old has someone very special at home who keeps her grounded–her fiancée, Alana Mayo.
In a new interview on David Chang’s podcast, The Dave Chang Show, Waithe revealed that even with her Emmy sitting at home, her future Mrs. still makes her do chores.
“The great thing is, she’s not jazzed by it,” Waithe said. “She definitely helps to keep me grounded …When I get home from winning an Emmy, she’s like, ‘Don’t forget to take out the recycling.’ It’s those things that I think are really helpful. She’s so laid back about it all.”
Waithe and Mayo got engaged in Tokyo on Thanksgiving in 2017.
No word yet as to when the couple will tie the knot but the actress told PEOPLE that their nuptials will be intimate and special.
“It’s going to be super small, crazy small. It’s almost like an excuse to have fun with our friends.”
