This past week, the city of Atlanta once again hosted to the 15th annual Summit21 Conference, a two-day panel style event promoting community, women empowerment, and leadership. During a keynote discussion, Tina Knowles-Lawson took the time to open up about raising her daughters Solange and Beyoncé Knowles.
“One thing I’m really happy I did was I gave each of my kids a day,” she told the audience of raising the two superstars. “As Solange got older, I would spend Wednesdays with her and help with homework and do those types of things and just devote that day to her, and then one day to Bey,”
In the end, she says her method of giving individual attention to each of her girls was a success because “it makes them feel [good] you know? Because kids, no matter how much you give them love and attention, it’s never enough. I mean I’m sure, everybody who has kids knows, you can take them to Astroworld, to eat, and they’ll still say, ‘Well what else we gon’ do?'”
Both sisters’ often praise their mother on social media, and Lawson is always first to share how proud she is of her children’s numerous achievements. In an interview with the New York Times, Beyoncé “I think it was important to my mother to surround us with positive, powerful, strong images of African and African-American art so that we could reflect and see ourselves in them,” Beyoncé said. Lawson is also the stepmother of actress Bianca Lawson and married her father actor Richard Lawson in 2015.
