It’s often bittersweet for parents when its time for their children to leave the nest. Such was the case when Martin Lawrence and his ex-wife Shamicka came together to send their daughter Iyanna off to her first semester of college.
The former couple helped move their daughter into her dorm room at Sarah Lawrence College. It was a tough day as the parents prepare for their baby girl to be on their own. “Today was one of the hardest days of my life,” Shamicka wrote under a series of Instagram photos from her daughter’s move-in day. “I left my baby girl @iyanna_faith at school to start her new chapter of college life. Your father @martinlawrence and I are so proud of the young woman that you have become. We know that you are in God’s hands.”
She continues, “He is guiding your steps and has camped his Angels around you. We are at peace knowing that you are happy with your surroundings and roommates. We are looking forward to you blossoming into an even stronger writer. Have fun and focus!!! Love you so much my angel.”
Back in August, Shamicka revealed that Iyanna had finally decided on Sarah Lawrence College with a concentration in creative writing. The school is nationally acclaimed for its literary program.
Iyanna shared her feelings about this new chapter under a photo with her mom. “I love you so much that sometimes it hurts to express it because I know I’m growing up and won’t be with you every day anymore,” the college freshman writes. “Even still, I’m your ‘Velcro baby’ forever and always! I’ll miss you but trust me the months will go by and you’ll be seeing me at the dinner table for each holiday.”
Martin Lawrence and Shamicka Lawrence share two daughters: Iyanna, 18, and Amara, 16. The couple married in 2010 and filed for divorce in 2012. Martin also has a 23-year-old daughter named Jasmine from a previous marriage. The Bad Boys actor is currently engaged to Roberta Moradfar and based on their Instagrams, they’re all one big happy blended family.
Congrats Iyanna and the Lawrence family.
