After months of anticipation, Nicki Minaj just recently married her teenage love Kenneth Petty. Not only is her mother, Carol Maraj, extremely happy for her only daughter…she’s also looking forward to becoming a grandmother.
In celebration of her newly released track “What Makes You,” Maraj spoke exclusively with VH1’s Marc Gardner about pursuing her own music career. During the conversation, Ms. Maraj was asked about Nicki’s recent marriage news. “I’m very happy she got married,” she says. “Her biological clock is ticking, and it’s about time she got married and gave me some grandchildren. So I’m very happy.”
In her smash hit “Chun-Li,” Minaj famously rapped that she “ain’t pushing out his babies ’til he buy the rock.” So now tha she’s officially a wife, we’re assuming it won’t be long before those babies make their debut. The rapper shocked her fans by tweeting that she was retiring from rapping to start a family, but later apologized for the abrupt announcement.
Still, we’ve known that Minaj has had motherhood on her mind for quite a while. In a 2014 interview with Complex, the rapper mapped out her future plans to have a baby. “After the [fifth album], I’ll probably have my baby,” she predicted. “I wonder if I’m going to be one of those women who balances my child with a career. I always said, ‘When I have my baby, it’s going to be all about my baby.’ I don’t want the child feeling like they don’t have all of my attention, so I always said, ‘I’m going to take a little break.’ But we’ll see.”
