Dating apps can reveal the best and worst of people. Some of us find love on dating apps while others can’t catch a break from constant horrible interactions with potential suitors.
One woman decided to expose a man who tried to pursue her in the worst way. While going through her messages, one Black woman received a message from a white man whose jungle fever quickly turned left. He complimented her legs and then expressed that he wanted her.
Once she turned him down he called her every name under the sun including racial slurs and misogynistic remarks. The man even wished her death simply because she turned down his advances. Was all of this necessary to say to a woman you never met in person?
Black women already have a harder time using dating apps, because of the lack of users who have interest and racial biases. “There is kind of a systemic racial bias pretty much in every dating site I’ve ever looked at,” notes Christian Rudder, co-founder of OKCupid and author of the dating statistics book Dataclysm. “We found that 82 percent of non-black men have some bias against black women… And Asian men get the fewest messages and the worst ratings of any group of guys.” With the pick of the litter slim to none on sites that are non-race specific like Tinder and Bumble, inappropriate sexual advances and black fetishizing of Black women will be met with a loud, “NAH.”
