In the midst of unimaginable grief, reality star Rah Ali is speaking out on the loss of her newborn daughter in hopes that other mothers who have experienced similar loss feel less alone.
Ali went into labor just five months into her pregnancy. Her newborn baby girl, Sanaa, was born on Sunday, May 27, 2019. Unfortunately, she passed away just a few minutes later. She describes what happened on that tragic day in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I called my husband and he rushed home,” Rah shares with the magazine. “The ambulance came and they took me to the hospital. That’s when they told me that my cervix was completely open and that my water had broken.” Doctors did everything they could to save baby Sanaa’s life, but informed the parents that she had a very low chance of survival given how premature she was.
“I held her,” Rah reveals. “She slept in the room with us until the morning when they took her away. I felt like I lost my soul.”
The loss, understandably, has taken a toll on Ali and her husband. “When you’re pregnant with your first child, it’s a whole mental thing just knowing that you’re going to deliver. Every day you count down and see [your due date] getting closer and closer. At five months, I hadn’t even come to the realization that it was going to happen. It was the worst experience of my life.”
Though the pain from her loss is still lingering, Ali has uploaded never before seen maternity photos, thanking everyone who made the shoot happen.
According to TMZ, Ali has been comforted by Nicki Minaj, who has been doing everything possible to be supportive during this tragic time.
We wish Ali, her husband and family all the best!
