Made For Me
Sometimes mutual friends really do make the best matchmakers. That is of course if you’re open to the possibilities. Just ask newlyweds Jessica and Chris, who realized they were soulmates after their friend Tanisha thought they had tons in common and insisted on making the introduction. It was 2007 and Jessica was interning at Ogilvy and Mather, while Chris was at American Express. “Chris ran an ad campaign for the Marriott partnership and Ogilvy was the advertiser of choice,” she recalls. “Being that both of us were from New Jersey, Tanisha suggested we meet. We went to dinner at Dinosaur BBQ’s in Harlem, and went dancing, and just kept in touch as friends.” They didn’t want to rush things, so at first an authentic friendship was what made the most sense. But moving at their own pace didn’t make their romantic fate any less inevitable. “We realized we were for each other some years later, and dated,” Jessica shares. We bet you can guess what happened next.
Italian Magic
During their last year of business school, Jessica and Chris studied abroad in Barcelona, which allowed them to take weekend trips and see the best of Europe. In between all of the studying, the papers and the exams, they were determined to leave a little room for love. In February 2014 they decided to go to Venice for the weekend. For this trip, Chris promised to take care of the Air BnB accommodations and their itinerary as long as she booked the flights. “This was rare because he hates to do the Trip Advisor research and Air BnB hustling to lock these things down,” Jessica recalls. “But, I still thought nothing of it.” They arrived, and one taxi ride, a plane ride and one boat ride later he turned and said to her, “I messed up the Air BnB and it doesn’t start until tomorrow night!” Refusing to let their plans be deterred, the happy couple found a hotel for the evening, and the next day they were off on a romantic Gondola ride through the Grand Canal. Dressed to the nines they began their romantic tour down the canal. Right in the middle of the tour, Chris interrupts the guide and begins to tell his love just how much he truly loves her and how much he appreciates the moment they’re having together. As he dropped to one knee and reached in his pocket, Jessica knew exactly what was about to happen, and she couldn’t wait to say “yes!” Share their love.
