Remy Ma has released an official statement Monday after surrendering to authorities last week for allegedly assaulting herLove & Hip Hop: New York castmate, Brittney Taylor.
Remy, whose birth name is Reminisce Mackie, posted $1500 cash bail on Thursday with a pending charge of misdemeanor assault, her rep said. The alleged incident is said to have taken place during a benefit concert last month in New York’s Irving Plaza hosted by Remy’s friend and collaborator Fat Joe.
After claiming that Taylor had no “credible evidence” of the incident, Remy’s publicist said that the “All The Way Up” rapper plans to pursue legal action to protect her assets.
“Remy’s legal team…[is] vigorously protecting her legal interests and her brand and will aggressively pursue related legal actions as necessary,” the statement said. “In addition to the fact that Taylor bypassed numerous police officers that were on the scene to post allegations on her Instagram page and hired a civil lawyer, who is known for high profile lawsuits, both of Remy’s lawyers assert there’s credible evidence to support that this is a baseless case and nothing more than a money grab attempt.”
Taylor told the New York Daily News that she was treated for minor injuries, including a bruised right eye after Remy punched her in the face over a misunderstanding regarding an incident involving Smith’s step-daughter Dejanae.
The statement also addressed Remy’s parole, of which she has less than three months to finish. She previously served six years for intentional assault following a 2008 shooting.
“Remy is currently still on parole. She has approximately 85 days of supervision left of her five-year post-release sentence,” the statement read. “Nevertheless, for the past four years and nine months, she has been a model citizen by maintaining employment, completing all mandatory programs, staying drug-free, adhering to all rules and has never even had a curfew violation.”
New York State’s Division of Parole told TMZ that the incident might be a violation of Remy’s parole and that they’re investigating.
For now, Remy is focused on her family and business ventures, her rep said, all while asking the public for privacy.
“Remy’s only request is that her family be respected and she personally thanks all the fans for their unwavering love and support,“ the statement concluded.
