I ran into these sisters in Rome.
They’re members of the “Sisters of the Holy Family” order,
started in New Orleans by Mother Delille,
a Black woman, in 1842. A recent Lifetime TV movie
starring Vanessa L. Williams was based on the order.

Sharon Bortolin is one of the few Black women I met in Rome.
She’s from Florida and is married to an Italian naval pilot.
