When it comes to dating apps, are you all swiped out? Well, fret not. Help is on the way.
Comedic actress and TV host Tiffany Haddish has teamed up with the popular dating app Bumble to give single ladies and gentlemen tips to beef up their dating success. Bumble users in “date” mode can match with Tiffany’s in-app card to see her top dating tips and advice. Additionally, users who connect with Haddish’s card will get the chance to have a one-on-one profile makeover from the Girl’s Trip star via Bumble’s video chat feature. (In case you weren’t aware, your dating profile matters more than you might think.)
ESSENCE spoke exclusively with Haddish, who says her partnership with Bumble feels like a natural fit because women are required to make the first move (as she tends to do in real life.) “I’ve been dabbling with the app and I’ve had some of the best conversations,” says the actress. “I’ve met some really, really smart and handsome guys on there. I also love Bumble because you can see who is verified. So there’s no catfishing.”
Like many single women who are booked, busy and killing it in their professional life, Haddish didn’t always make dating a priority…until she had a sudden epiphany. “I started to realize I wasn’t having fun and I was getting really lonely,” she says. “I’m always surrounded by people, but I wasn’t necessarily having an emotional connection with anyone.”
Haddish told us that she has suffered through her fair share of disaster dates just like the rest of us. This includes the time she ditched a motor-mouth in the middle of a movie date because he wouldn’t stop chatting, and a nightmarish evening that ended with a creeper exposing himself in the back of a cab. Yuck! These dreadful experiences have taught Haddish that intuition is everything. “Whatever that first thought is in that first 10 seconds [of seeing a profile], that’s what it is,” she advises. “Swipe right or left. Whatever the first thought is, move on.”
When it comes to attracting future bae, Haddish says honesty is the best policy. “If you don’t have a sense of humor, don’t [try to]. If you love shopping, write that in your profile. If you want to be taken care of, [write] that you want to be taken care of. Even if you’ve don’t know what you’re looking, just say it: ‘I’m just here to have a good time.'”
Bumble isn’t just a dating tool. The app connects people across dating (Bumble date), friendship (Bumble BFF) and professional networking (Bumble Bizz).
