A former student of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa just got the ultimate wedding gift – a gorgeous (and expensive) wedding gown from Oprah herself!
This wasn’t just any old regular day of browsing. According to The Daily Mail, Winfrey took the bride-to-be, Glori Rapalalani, and two of her bridesmaids, Morgan Mpungose and Mpumi Nobiva (all of whom are graduates of the inaugural class of the Academy) to Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills and spent an estimated $10,000 on the bride’s dream dress. The store was closed to the public so the media mogul and her students could shop uninterrupted.
It wasn’t just the bridal party that enjoyed this emotional day. Oprah shared how much this #biglifemoment meant to her. “I’ve known these girls since they were 12 and 13 coming to my school,” Winfrey shared in the caption. “Graduating from college. Grad school. Now our first wedding. Looking for the perfect dress.”
Glori shared some Insta-story moments with mama O and the girls as they shopped
Nobiva shared videos and photos from the day, joking that she was receiving practice for when her Prince charming comes along.
Winfrey founded her Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa back in 2007. During an appearance on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Winfrey confirmed that she is considering opening a second school here in America. “Yes, I’m actually thinking about it,” Oprah said in response to an audience member. “I’m actually thinking about where, and the reason why I called it the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls: South Africa [is that] even then, I was thinking this will just be one. This will be the satellite school and then I will do others. It’s taken me a while to get it right, it took me about ten years to actually get it right. I’m thinking about it.”
