Michael Logan noticed Kimberly Hinnant during their first day of classes at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Intrigued, he asked her to be his study partner. They quickly became best friends and, over time, much more.
Michael knew Kimberly was the one early in their relationship. When he saw the ESSENCE Storybook Wedding contest, he wrote and was selected as one of six finalists. “I could tell by the way he treats his mother and sisters, that he would treat me like a queen,” Kimberly says.
Kimberly always wanted to visit Paris, so Michael whisked her away to the next best thing – Epcot’s romantic France pavilion. The couple forgot all about their studies as they enjoyed the park to themselves. “It was magical,” Michael shares.
The Jersey girl and Las Vegas native discovered they are more alike than different. “It was breath taking to meet someone from the opposite side of the country that I had so much in common with,” Kimberly says.
As the couple noshed on croissants at their bistro table, Cinderella’s helper, Major Domo, strode into view and presented a glass slipper and Kimberly’s engagement ring.
“Kim is the most unselfish person that makes people smile and this is the perfect opportunity to do something special for her,” Michael says.
Before heading to Orlando, Michael called Kimberly’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage. “Michael is a true gentleman and I love that about him,” says Kimberly. “Not only does he open every door for me but he also does the same for my mother.”
The couple admits dating while in law school is not easy, but making their relationship work is a top priority. ”I knew that Michael was the one and this just reinforced it,” Kimberly says. “He made sure that I was back in enough time to take my final exams.”
Why they want your vote: “When you meet your soul mate, you know, and Kim is that to me,” says Michael. “We are each other’s support system. Life is too short to postpone love.”
