There You Are
Sometimes fate has a way of working itself out. From 2004-2008, Angel lived in Jacksonville, Florida while she attended Jacksonville University. Just a few months after she graduated and moved out of the city, Nate moved into town to play wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars. It would seem as if two soul mates had just missed crossing paths, but luckily a mutual friend came to the rescue. Since Nate is a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and Angel a proud member of its sister organization Delta Sigma Theta, it was only a matter of time before he began to get to know the brothers and sisters living in the city. One of them was Angel’s line sister. She and Nate became great friends and soon enough she realized they’d be a great match and told Angel about Nate. “I remember when she called me one random day while I was in training in Navy flight school to tell me about him,” Angel recalls. “I initially rolled my eyes at the very thought of being with a young, professional athlete. Given his stature, he literally had his choice of any woman he wanted. Why would he want to entertain a long-distance relationship with a military woman?” Well, he did. Angel gave her line sister permission to give Nate her number. Later that evening, Nate called and they chatted for hours. “He continued to call me regularly and our conversations always flowed so seamlessly,” she remembers. “He preferred to call over text, and I especially liked that about him. Fast forward a couple of months and we finally meet in person after my friend’s wedding.” Needless to say, there was chemistry was instant.
This Magic Moment
It was a rainy, gloomy day in south Florida. Nate knew Angel had an appreciation for aerospace and all things aviation, so he made special reservations for them to watch a rocket launch at the Kennedy Space Center. He didn’t tell her what they were doing or where we they were headed. She rushed home from work and they just hit the road. Eventually he caved and told her where they were going and Angel was thrilled. They went sightseeing and posed for pictures with every exhibit there. Although the weather didn’t permit any rocket launches that evening, the pair were still having a magical time. “Nate suggested we take one more picture,” Angel remembers. “He asked a passing worker to snap the picture with my phone. As I got in close to pose, I could feel his heart pounding so hard and fast as if it were going to burst out of his chest. The next thing I know, he gets down on one knee and asks me to be his wife.” Too sweet! Join us as we celebrate their beautiful “I dos.”
