During her July 4 performance on the main stage at ESSENCE Festival, beloved hip-hop star Missy Elliott had the Superdome crowd on its feet with fiery renditions of “Hot Boys,” “Work It” and other classics. But then a production error led to her show getting cut off abruptly.
At the end of the night, following Usher’s performance, Elliott came back on stage to say a proper good night to her fans. She was joined by Essence Communications president Michelle Ebanks, who hugged Elliott and offered an on-stage apology.
On behalf of the brand, Ebanks now issues the following statement:
“We apologize to @MissyElliott and her fans for her set being cut short at the Essence Festival on July 4. We deeply regret that it happened. We have so much love and respect for Missy and were thrilled to have her join us at the Essence Festival for the first time this year.”
