Candidate name: Jeannine Lee Lake
State: Indiana
Bio: Jeannine Lee Lake is accustomed to covering news in her professional role as a journalist; these days, she’s making headlines as a congressional candidate in rural Indiana. The longtime resident of Muncie is a progressive who’s running against Republican Greg Pence; he’s the brother of Vice President Mike Pence. Lake, the publisher-editor of the Good News (formerly the Muncie Times), is undeterred. “I’m running because I believe we all have to stand up right now and fight for progress—for our prosperity and health, our civil rights and civil liberties, and our security,” she said on her
website.
Lake is a community advocate who sits on local boards, including Big Brothers Big Sisters. As chairwoman of Feed My Sheep, she helped orchestrate delivery of 1,500 meals to the needy on Thanksgiving. A self-described Christian Democrat, Lake says that prayer is integral to her campaign. Republicans, she noted, shouldn’t be the only ones laying claim to faith-based values. “Democrats love God, too,” she says. Lake’s endorsements include Indiana native
David Letterman.
