Lucy McBath, Democratic Candidate For Georgia’s 6th Congressional District

Bio: Lucia “Lucy” McBath was raised in Joliet, Illinois, in a family active in the NAACP and civil rights. After graduating from Virginia State University, she moved to Atlanta and spent 30 years as a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. In 2012 her 17-year old son, Jordan Davis, was fatally shot at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida; the shooter was a white man who objected to the loud music the high school student and his friends were playing in their car. Spurred to action, McBath became a national spokeswoman for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. She’s lobbied Congress and has fought for change with other “Mothers of the Movement” who have lost children to gun and police-involved violence.
Her endorsements include former President Barack Obama and EMILY’s List. Says Adrianne Shropshire, executive director of BlackPAC: “Voters know that she will be a passionate advocate in Congress for the issues they care about most, from ending senseless gun violence and expanding health care, to funding our public schools and standing up for immigrant and women’s rights.”
