Bio: A Brooklyn, New York, native who has always been proud to serve her community, Rep. Yvette Clarke served on the New York City Council, representing the 40th District in Brooklyn, before first being elected to Congress in 2006, then representing New York’s 11th District. As a council member, she followed in the footsteps of her mother, former City Council member Dr. Una Clarke. The Clarkes became the first mother-daughter succession in the history of the council. As a second-generation Jamaican American, representing a district known for its diversity, Clarke runs on a platform that focuses not only on issues such as affordable housing, education and gun safety, but also on immigration and issues that impact first- and second-generation Caribbean Americans.
