Kashala Francis, the 13-year-old girl who was on life support after being brutally beaten and kicked in the head during a fight outside of her middle school, has died.
Kashala, a student of Attucks Middle School in Houston, Texas, was targeted by a group of girls after school last Thursday. The girls repeatedly stomped her and beat her in her head, video taken of the violent incident showed.
By Sunday, the teen had fallen unconscious and was placed on life support. She never opened her eyes again after that day.
“Why do I have to suffer?” Kashala’s mother, Mamie Jackson told ABC13 as she cried. “Why do I have to wake up and she’s not here?”
“It’s not fair,” Jackson added. “She did not deserve that.”
While hospitalized, doctors discovered a tumor in the 13-year-old’s brain that was previously unknown to the family. There was also fluid build up in her brain.
It is still unclear if the fight contributed to Kashala’s untimely death, or if it was all the cause of her pre-existing condition.
Jackson, however, remains unconvinced, saying that her daughter’s sudden decline makes no sense.
“So if she had a tumor in her head that we [didn’t know] about, and somebody repeatedly stomps and kicks and punches you in your head, you’re not even fighting back, is it going to be better, is it going to be worse?” Jackson asked.
Jackson insists that if the fight hadn’t happened, “I still would have had more time with my baby.”
Houston Police is working alongside with Houston Independent School District Police to investigate the incident. An autopsy will be conducted at Texas Children’s Medical Hospital to determine Kashala’s cause of death.
Meanwhile, the family is left to mourn and plan a funeral for a 13-year-old child. The family has a Facebook donation page in order to help with Kashala’s funeral expenses. The page has raised more than $10,000, exceeding its goal, over the past three days.
