Matthew McKenzie just did what most high school freshmen don’t even care about yet: finish college. The 14-year-old whiz kid not only completed his high school courses, but he also graduated from Chattahoochee Technical College with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, reports Fox 5 Atlanta.
He graduated from Chattahoochee Tech with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, then later the same night he received his diploma from high school.
His fast track through school is a result of an intense homeschool program, which he began in second grade. “We would pull material from different textbooks and custom create his curriculum,” says his mother, Monique McCord.
McKenzie started taking high school classes at 8-years-old and began a dual enrollment in high school and college at age 11, a leap that might’ve intimidated most pre-teens.
“I started off walking him to class and then the environment got a little more comfortable, then he started walking himself, so he eased into the transition,” said McCord.
Talk about being ahead of the curve.
Kennesaw State University will be welcoming the young genius in the fall, where McKenzie will study biochemistry. After, he would like to get his Masters and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
“I want to be a Cosmetic Chemist,” he says. “I want to start my own line of chemical products, the beauty of things.”
How’s that for Black Boy Joy?
