Award season is almost here and Black actors are receiving the nominations they deserve.
Announced on Wednesday morning, the Screen Actors Guild Award’s (SAG) nominations highlight stellar performances from Mary J. Blige, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown and more.
The Dee Rees-directed Netflix film Mudbound secured a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture as well as Blige’s nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her dynamic portrayal of fictional character Florence Jackson.
Acclaimed thriller, Get Out, is also up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and the standout star, Daniel Kaluuya, earned a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
Denzel Washington scored his seventh SAG nomination for his leading role in, Roman J. Israel, Esq.
Fan-favorite NBC show, This Is Us was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. And Sterling K. Brown is up for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Randall Pearson in the primetime series.
ABC’s Black-ish and Orange Is The New Black will face off for a win in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series category with each show getting a spotlight nomination for Anthony Anderson and Uzo Aduba for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, respectively.
Morgan Freeman will receive the lifetime achievement award.
The SAG Awards will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 pm. PT on Sunday, Jan. 21.
