Between political fights, social media nastiness, and an increasingly fraught racial climate, sometimes living in this country feels more like 1968 than 2018. Still, there are bright spots out there, and one little boy in Georgia just reminded all of us that we can always take a moment to be kind.
Riley Duncan was minding his own business when he saw 8-year-old Maurice Adams Jr. stop traffic and jump out of his car to help an elderly woman who was crossing the street.
Adams’ mother, Contricia Hill, said once he spotted the woman walking alone, the precocious young boy asked if he could help.
“He asked, ‘Can I go out there and help her up the steps?'” Hill told a local news station.
After getting his mother’s blessing, Adams lept into action, helping the woman get to the other side of the road and up a few stairs, holding her arm and assisting her patiently each step of the way. Duncan caught the touching moment on video and shared it with Atlanta’s WSBTV.
Hill said the tender moment between her son and the woman, who thanked him with a hug, made her proud.
“It’s touching. It’s very touching,” she said. “(It just shows) respect and raising your kids right goes a long way.”
Before he got back in the car, the elderly woman left Adams with a message. “She told him that he’s special,” his mother recalled.
We definitely agree.
