If you’re a Millennial baby, then you probably remember requesting Aaliyah’s “One in a Million” on the radio during your drives to school, or jammin’ out to her “Rock the Boat” at school dances.
R&B princess Aaliyah made music that served as the soundtrack to my pre-teen years. She was a musical talent, but also incredibly beautiful and had some serious beauty and boy-meets-girl fashion chops that would make anyone green with envy. Who didn’t want to be—or at least be cool with—Aaliyah?
Almost fifteen years after her passing, fans are still commemorating her death. Recently, within the past year or so, fans have been circulating a petition for MAC to create a collaboration for the singer to continue her legacy.
The Aaliyah for MAC campaign was started by super fan, Jennifer Risinger, who launched the petition online through Change.org and later reached out to Aaliyah’s family to inquire about interest. According to Risinger, the late singer’s brother, Rashad Haughton backs the effort stating that Aaliyah was a “big fan of MAC,” and confirmed his support stating “he approves the idea for a Limited Edition collection for her by MAC.” Risinger’s petition has a goal of reaching 15,000 signatures, and they are currently just 200-some signatures shy or making their mark.
Personally, we’d love a MACxAaliyah collection honoring some of her signature lip shades, shadows and iconic winged liner. Perhaps a lipstick or an eyegloss in the collection could even channel her role as Akasha in Queen of the Damned. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that MAC will take note of the petition and honor the fallen singer as they honored timeless Latina beauty, Selena. Join the petition and add your name the AaliyahForMAC cause by signing up on Change.org and keep up with the #AaliyahForMAC campaign via their Twitter and Instagram channels.
