This week, the ladies of CBS’ The Talk have been divulging their most quietly kept secrets. Comedian and actress Aisha Tyler shared her struggles with fertility on the show, reports E! Online.
Tyler, who married her husband Jeff Tietjens back in 1992, only recently started exploring the idea of having kids. However, after quitting birth control and still “nothing was really happening,” Tyler decided to see a specialist. “I’m old,” said Tyler. “In baby years, that’s old to be trying to get pregnant.”
After talking with the doctor, Tyler discovered she has a tortuous fallopian tube, which makes it hard for sperm to travel to the egg. “We went through the process,” said Tyler. “There are all these shots, they make your body crazy, they make you emotional, they hurt… I was getting shots every day. I wasn’t telling you guys—my husband and I were going through this at home together. He hated giving me the shots. He probably cried more than I did.”
The couple decided to give up after numerous attempts at conceiving. Tyler said there’s nothing missing from her marriage, but it would have been nice to have kids. “I married my husband because I loved him and I don’t feel like there’s anybody missing from our marriage, but when you think about this person that you love, and you think about what a wonderful thing it would be to bring another person like that into this world, I think that’s the hardest part about all of it.”
The couple is considering adopting, however they would like a little more time before they make any more decisions.
