During a celebration to honor the life of Phife Dawg, Rolling Stone reports that Andre 3000 shared that there had been talks of a joint album between A Tribe Called Quest and Outkast.
“I’m going to say some interesting news and some disappointing news at the same time,” he began.
A Tribe Called Quest to Celebrate Phife Dawg’s Life With Special Event
“About a year or two ago, we were talking about doing a Tribe Called Quest and Outkast album. Yeah. For whatever reason, it did not happen. I don’t want to let the time go by, because you never know. And that’s one of the biggest things about regret. Whatever reason we didn’t do it, it was on our plate and we just… let it go for our own personal reasons.”
The special celebration took place at the Apollo on Tuesday night where friends, including rappers Busta Rhymes, Chuck D and Kanye West, shared memories about Phife’s contribution to hip hop.
In March, Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor passed away at age 45 from ongoing health complications as a result of diabetes.
As sad as we are about this joint album not happening, we’re even sadder about Phife’s death. R.I.P.
