The book includes stories about interviewing Tupac right before he died, knowing major artists before they were famous, and hating Puff Daddy. She also talks about the time that she got into a fight with Wendy Williams, which started when Martinez found out that Williams was making comments about her relationship with Q-Tip.
Williams had talked about their relationship on her website writing, “One of my co-workers is dating Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Oh well. I guess some women like men who like men.” Martinez said, “Everybody was gay to Wendy. Every rapper you could think of in that era, I had heard Wendy Williams call them gay. Not one or two. Like every one of them.” Martinez confronted Williams about the comments and soon things escalated. “I lost my f–king mind. Before I knew it I was swinging at her. It was a quick scuffle. It took only a few seconds for me to realize that she wasn’t really hitting me back — she was just trying to get me off of her.”
A co-worker stepped in to break up the fight, which gave Williams a chance to grab a mop to try to defend herself, “She just stood there with it like she wanted to have some sort of sword fight or something. It was actually kind of funny, even in the moment.” Now, for Martinez, it’s all water under the bridge. She admits that sometimes she watches Williams’ show and laughs, saying, “She has really mastered her lane. I find myself watching and laughing out loud. I don’t have any ill feelings toward her.”
