In the weeks after announcing her farewell tour, a number of fans have shared their love of Baker’s music catalog via Twitter. One of those fans is Issa Rae who shared Baker’s 1986 cover art for “Sweet Love.” The song was Baker’s first big hit and gave her two Grammys.
In response, Baker tweeted a photo of Insecure‘s DVD in front of the musical score for “Sweet Love” with the caption, “@Issa Rae and we can’t stop watching. Blessings.”
Rae quickly responded to Baker with, “AHHHH, was NOT expecting this. Thank you, Queen!”
In December, Baker announced that she would go on a farewell tour to celebrate her 60th birthday all year with fans. In addition to Florida dates in the spring, Baker also added a stop in Atlanta for Mother’s Day weekend.
“Atlanta… You & Me. Mother’s Day weekend,” she announced. “Two Shows, Fox Theatre.” As reported by WSB Radio, Baker is also set to headline the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival this spring.
In the statement, the 8-time-Grammy-award winner expressed gratitude to “her second generation of millennial fans that keep her name trending on Twitter.” The statement also noted that these fans “have viewed her videos on YouTube more than 20 million times and have streamed her more on Spotify than had bought her platinum albums. Kendrick Lamar, Lalah Hathaway and Andre 3000 claim her as their musical inspiration and seek her out.”
