Aretha Franklin recently proved that some things just get better with age. The legendary singer celebrated turning 69 with a fiery performance at her swanky birthday bash in Manhattan.
Franklin partied among fellow music moguls Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Clive Davis, and Bette Midler. Gayle King was also among hundreds of celebrities to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul on Friday night at the Central Park Hotel.
“It’s a fabulous moment,” Franklin told the Associated Press. Seated among a bounty of gifts, the singer showed off her noticeably slimmer frame in a flowing white and gold gown.
With more than 100 family and friends on hand, Franklin enjoyed a night of serenades — most notably a heartfelt song from former Temptations frontman Dennis Edwards — gifts, and dancing. The singer said she expects to spend some time relaxing after so much fun: “I will be in a horizontal position tomorrow, all day!” Franklin said.
We’re glad you enjoyed your birthday Aretha – keep smiling!
