
Singer-songwriter Ashanti will exercise her acting chops in a new recurring role on Lifetime’s Army Wives confirms The Hollywood Reporter.
Ashanti will star in the seventh season of the drama series as Latasha Durant, an optimistic mother of three who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Latasha has a strong spirit and is determined to live her life to the fullest despite her illness. She’s also described as a sexy, fun woman who adores and loves to flirt with her husband.
Although Ashanti is most widely known her for her R&B hits, she’s has also held down prior acting roles in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Resident Evil: Extinction, John Tucker Must Die and Coach Carter. Currently, Ashanti is the host of the entertainment show Fuse News on FUSE TV and is also working on her next album, Braveheart.
Army Wives was renewed in September and will start filming the new season this month in Charleston, South Carolina.
