It’s been nearly ten months since Dylan Roof entered Charleston’s historic Emanuel AME Church, spraying gunfire and tragically killing nine people.
A judge set a trial date to begin mid-July. Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder, but now Roof’s lawyers have made claims that they need more time to prepare an adequate defense.

The Grio reports that the attorneys filed a petition last week with the courts to have the date delayed because the pre-scheduled date doesn’t allow for substantial preparation and investigation to best benefit Roof’s defense.
A potential jury pool will convene at the end of June and should things go as planned, Roof’s trial will begin on June 11.
