The unstoppable Ava DuVernay is at it again!
DuVernay is teaming up with Selma star David Oyelowo and Participant Media for an untitled Hurricane Katrina drama. The feature film will weave together both a love story and a murder mystery while recapturing the plight of the devastating 2005 New Orleans hurricane, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“Hurricane Katrina is one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time,” executive producer Jonathan King said to the Reporter. “Ava DuVernay has shown herself to be highly skilled at bringing intimacy and contemporary urgency to epic events.”
This will be the third project where DuVernay and Oyelowo will team up (besides Selma, the duo also collaborated on DuVernay’s 2012 indie film Middle of Nowhere with Participant Media). Oyelowo will both produce and star in the drama.
“I’m thrilled to reunite with my Participant family on this project and fortunate to work again with the always exquisite David Oyelowo,” she said to the Reporter. “The story we’re interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself. I’m looking forward to the journey.”
