Topknots were the must-try hairstyle of the summer. The style was spotted on almost every celeb and we’re certain you threw your Senegalese twists into the style the entire month of July. But now top knot enthusiast have a new way to wear the classic look: to the back and slightly undone. We spotted this look at the Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2016 show where Macadamia Professional International Creative Director and celebrity stylist Giannandrea coined it the “The Back Knot.”
We’re not sure if the style will take off, but a similar style was also spotted at Marissa Webb and Creatures of the Wind shows. And, best of all this style is great for those with extensions—just throw it back, add a loop and you’re done. Ready to try it yourself? Follow the eight steps below.

Step 1: Slightly damp hair with water and create a center part all the way to the highest point of the head.
Step 2: Section hair from top of head to ears, combing down from the part. Take back, large sections and blow dry using a diffuser and a brush.
Step 3: For heat protection and added shine, apply Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Spray onto dried hair. Run a flatiron through all sections to straighten hair.
Step 4: Gather all hair at the nape of the neck using the paddle brush and create a tight, low ponytail. Secure the ponytail in place with an elastic and reinforce with pins.
Step 5: Next, secure the weft of extensions onto the elastic.
Step 6: Take a small section of the weft to hold aside.
Step 7: With remaining hair in the pony, create a loose loop and secure with another elastic.
Step 8: Wrap the small section of loose hair around the elastic, securing it with a pin and spray a bit of hairspray to hold in place.
